Just a quick note to let you know that the Dr's nurse just called to tell me that "surprisingly" my blood work came back normal, but seeing how my thyroid is huge, he is starting me on Loxaxyl (synthtroid). At least he listened to me!!! they are mailing my RX to me, so I have to wait on it. I go back in 6 months (unless I have problems, then they said I would get right in) for a followup.
I am SO anxious to see how medicating this icky thyroid will make me feel. Maybe I'll start losing weight again!!! Maybe I'll actually feel ALIVE again!!!
How do you spell relief?????? G-O-O-D D-O-C-T-O-R Who actually LISTENS!!!!
Whew!!! Back to work.... _________________ Dingie Dinah

Oh Dinah, THAT'S GREAT! *fingers crossed that this works* It is SO important to have a doctor that listens and then actually does something to change the problem. Good Luck |

Hi Dinah ~ I'm so glad to hear that you're happy with how things went at the doctor's office!!
Keep us posted, okay? I'm on Levoxyl also, at the dose of 112. I hope you get feeling better soon - such a hassle, isn't it?? *Ü* _________________ Started Somersizing Feb. 2001

Thanks Guys. I am SO looking forward to feeling better. Deb, did you find that the synthroid helped or hindered weight loss? I'm so ready to get rid of these last pounds. But maybe if my energy level increases, I'll finally feel like exercising.

Dinah ~ I've been on synthroid and then levoxyl for about 10 years -- so I was taking it prior to my starting to lose weight. So, no - it did not hinder my weight loss! *Ü* _________________ Started Somersizing Feb. 2001

Hi all. I just wanted to let you know how much better I'm feeling. I can't believe it myself. I actually have a brain, I think. And physically, I'm feeling stronger. I actually am thinking about dusting off the old gazelle!!!
Just thought I'd share.

deb, could it happen so fast???? Or is it pshyco-somatic (SP?) Whatever it is, I'll take it. I never wanted to think I was a hypo-chondriac, but maybe that's the case!!! could such a low dosage do such miraculous thing?
I do know my eyes are bothering me. I can't tell if it's an "allergy" thing or if maybe I have a Graves disease thing going on. Ok, I'm a hypo-chondriac.... I'm just worried!!!! I HATE being 47 years old and falling apart!!! In my heart, in my MIND, I'm 23 years old and livin' life to the fullest!!!! _________________ Dingie Dinah

Hey Dinah ~ Sure beats me - what the heck do I know?? <wink> I would think if you're feeling better after taking the synthroid/levoxyl, even a low dosage - then that's what your body needs. What dose are you taking? I love it too cuz it's CHEAP!
And, BTW I believe we're both psycho. And 23. Amen *Ü* _________________ Started Somersizing Feb. 2001

Ok, we can both be 23 year old weirdo's !!!! At least I am!!!!! I've told that to everyone for years. No matter what age I am, I'm still 23 yrs old in my head/heart. I'll probably be 23 yrs old in my heart/head when I die. Ok, at least I HOPE so!!!! I have no idea if the stuff is working, but i HOPE it is. Maybe I'm a hypy-chondriac, and if so, so be it!!!! WHATEVER!!!!! (hand flap)

I have been on thyroid hormone replacement therapy since a thyroidectomy in 1999. My stuggle with weight loss goes way back to before the thryoid removal. My current dosage of Levoxyl is 175mcg and that is slightly on the high side but my doctor told me we can get away with if because of other factors going on with my levels. I have blood work done every 3 - 6 months depending. Usually we alternate what is being checked for the thyroid function. I have tried every diet and have followed a diet/exercise program and don't lose weight. I am one of the unlucky who have a nonexistent metabolism, therefore I have to do 3x the aerobic exercise of a "normal" person in order to get any benefit. My doctor feels that I may not be able to lose. I have been pretty much maintaining my present weight, give or take 4-7 lbs for the last 4 +/- years. Very frustrating and disheartening. Sorry to ramble on like this.
Dinah, congrats on the meds working for you and so quickly. |

Hi sapphire ~ This is sure a struggle isn't it? I understand your frustration. I just wanted to post, for whatEVER it's worth... I've been on Sythroid and now Levoxyl for about 10 years since having my thryroid ablated (killed - radioactive iodine). My current dose is 0.125 mg once a day.
What is interesting is that I attended a metabolism workshop 2 weeks ago and among other blood levels, I was tested for "Free T3". I've been tested for T3 and T4 before, but never "Free T3". I was quite low.
The doctor that gives these workshops then prescribed T3 for me. The Rx name for this is Liothyronine SR. It's a bio-identical compound and I will pick it up this Friday.
I've never felt "good" ever since my thyroid ablation. I'm ofcourse hoping with the addition of the T3, this will make a difference. I'll continue with my levoxyl, which is T4.
The Levoxyl is prescribed by my endocrinologist, whom I've been seeing since the beginning of this. I have my annual appt. with him in 2 weeks and I have no idea what he's going to say about the T3 being added in by the other doctor.
If you're at all interested, this is the website of the doctor whose seminars I've attended, and whos eating plan I'm now on (as of yesterday): http://www.hormonesbyhart.com/ _________________ Started Somersizing Feb. 2001
