Do not just walk by and say, hhhmmm this would be a good time to clean my oven, and hit the "clean" button.

Make sure you double check that someone didn't leave something in the oven!!!!

I burnt up my good expensive family size skillet!!! burnt it to a crisp! And I can't blame it on anyone but ME!

ssshhhh don't tell my DH!! He's the one who bought it for me!!!

Sure would like to get some NEW COOKWARE!!!! Wish I knew someone who was getting ready to sell some!!!!!!!!

hehehehehe

Hmm - I wonder if I could shove my carpeting in there (little by little)? I sure would love new carpeting...

That reminds me - I need to push that button too! We make baked chicken wings and boy does it greasify that oven.

Sorry about your fryin' pan Dinah!

I must say tho, I have a nice clean oven!!! I just feel like an idiot for cooking my cookware! I kept wondering why it stunk so bad, but since this is the 1st time I've cleaned it, I thought it was "normal". And I was busy cleaning carpets and didn't really pay attention.

Never Again! LOL

You'd better watch it, Dinah.... you're coming by your nickname honestly. Laughing You're in good company.... not to the same extreme, but I showed up for a shift last night I thought started at 6... an hour earlier than it actually started! Fortunately they let me "split the difference" and start at 6:30. I said to my head cashier "I know it's my fault but you realize I just feel like going home now and staying there (instead of wasting an unpaid hour here)." It was nice of her to accomodate my incompentence. ha ha.

Best,
Laurie

Dinah, I have to tell you another funny one. I was trying to be organized one Sunday and cleaned, trussed and seasoned a turkey for dinner. I set my oven on delayed timed bake to begin cooking about 30 mins after I left the house. Well my DH came home, did not look in the oven and decided since no one was home it was good time to clean the oven. Well, lets just say that we had the cleanest and crispiest turkey ever. We still don't let him live that one down. We all have our dingy moments.

Oh Susan, that is hilarious!!! After seeing my favorite (sniff, sniff) pan burnt to a crisp, I can ONLY imagine what that poor turkey looked like!

I do believe there is an art to owning a SC oven! LOL

Dinah, you are just to funny! I like that one but how about the time my wife made her first turkey and when it was set on the table and she started cutting it, she left the inards innard! We never let her live that one down either but hey, at least she didn't leave the "bleachy" footprints on the new rugs, remember? LOL Take care and Dinah, I guess this nixes you cleaning my new stainless steel grill this summer huh,

Hmmmm..... I'd think so Aimee if they'll fit. But... you need to clean as much off before you put it in there as ya can. Still messy, and a cholre!
My range book says I should take my oven racks out when cleaning. Says I can leave them in, but they will lose some gloss, and won't slide as easily. Says if ya leave them, you can oil them w/vegetable oil afterwards.
I cleaned my yesterday as a matter of fact, and I left them in!!! After I wiped them down (after the cleaning), I put oil on the part that slides in. It did make a difference.
I also put the upper part (the slotted part) of the broiler pan in there too. Was a little leery of that, but it cleaned it great. I had a smaller, flimsier one that I put in, then stopped the cleaning process after about 30 mins, and took it out. Now I wish I had left it. Think it would have been OK, and tho it did help it too, it didn't quite get it clean. Next time I'll put them both in there.

Aimee, I clean my grill racks and it couldn't be easier! Just take them outside, lean them against something and spray both sides with oven cleaner, let sit an hour or two, then hose off. I always spray my racks before cooking with Pam for the grill and it really helps a bunch! Hope this helps but beware, as Billie has mentioned, everything that goes into the oven (food leftover wise) will become gooey or ashes and will require extra effort to clean up too,
David

I've never used my self cleaner. Are there issues with the fumes and pets or kids or anything like that? You guys have piqued my interest and I think I probably should do it.

My range instructions said to be sure you had PLENTY of ventilation at least the first time you use it!!
If you have the book for your oven, I'd suggest you read what it says about cleaning it.
Good ventilation is good any time you use the self cleaner.
It heats the oven to a VERT HOT temp (around 400-500 degrees F). The whole stove may get pretty warm (hot), so be sure you don't have any plastic, etc on the top during the cleaning cycle.

Never put oven cleaners in a self cleaning oven!!!!! You'll ruin the oven.

As I said in the above post, if you leave the oven racks in, they will lose thier shine. But I'd rather have racks that aren't quite as shiny, as to have them brown wth baked on grease, etc, or have to try to hand clean them. And if you put a little veg oil on the part that slides in & out after you've cleaned them, and wiped them down, it will help them slide easier.
