Ok - it has been 16 weeks today since I made the commitment to live the low carb life style... But I have to admit that I have avoided exercise of any kind ... Really don't care to do it and I always have something better to do like improving my skills of being a coach potato...
In order to achieve long term health I really need to incorporate some type of exercise into my life that I can stick with...
So for starters (6 week Challenge) - my Goal for the:
First week - is to do at least 10 mins a day of any type of exercise... Oh heck - What did I just say !
If there is anyone else that is wanting to start their own exercise challenge....your welcome to join in

First week - is to do at least 10 mins a day of any type of exercise
2-26-07 15 mins
Arm - Strength Training with 2 lb weights
2-27-07 13 mins
Hips / Butt / Thighs - Lower Body Workout with Exercise Ball
2-28-07 5 mins
Walk down 3 flights of stairs (96 stairs) and then climb 3 flights of stairs (96 stairs) while going to visit my mother in-law in the hospital...was not very long but definitely got my heart pumping...
3-01-07 1hr & 30 mins
Used the a small snow blower to remove 10 inches + of wet heavy snow from driveway and front walk... I am sure I will need to do it again later...
3-02-07 5 mins
Walk up and down 6 flights of stairs while visiting my mother in-law in the hospital...
3-03-07 20 mins
Ok - I think I over did it on the stairs...so today I just vacuum the floors in my house...
3-04-07
Still hurting from walking the stairs - took a break today...

Hi,
If you are a serious coach potato as I was I thought I would share a few exercise options (you can do at home)I have gleaned from my son's personal trainer.
1. Find a solid chair. Sit on the edge with your feet on the ground. stand up and sit down. (start with 20 -30 repetitions and gradually go up to 60 at a time) These are like squats but alot easier as you have the chair to take your weight at the end of every repetition. You can do this 2 or three times during your workout. Make sure to keep your back straight as if you are being pulled up by a string coming from the top of your head.
2. Using a broom stick, hold it accross your chest with your hands cupped up and your elbows close into your body. Twist from the waist as far as you can comfortable. Go back and forth for 20 reps.
3. Put on some good music and march in place. Do this for 5 minutes at a time at the start. Try to keep your back straight and try to keep your knees high in each step. When you get to the end of your first 5 min you may want to lower the knees a bit.
4. Stretch.
Good luck _________________

Well I guess I can't say I am a true coach potato anymore because I no longer have the bags of chips, pop, chocolate candy etc....sitting with me on the coach....Yea!....
Any suggestions are appreciated... and The exercises that you posted look like something I can handle this first week...
Thanks for your help !

Feeling pretty crappy this week... Can't or I should say don't want to find the time to exercise.... The first week went well for me but I have to admit that being at the hospital daily is getting stressful for our whole family... We just want my mother in-law to get better but it seems like she takes one step forward and 3 steps back....
Second week: - is to just get thru it....
3-05-07
3-06-07
3-07-07
3-08-07
3-09-07
Ok - I need to find the bright side: Even though my exercise challenge is deflating right now... I can honestly say that my healthy eating habits are still going strong....
3-10-07 / 15 mins
Took a short walk with my husband around the block
3-11-07 / 15 mins
Another short walk
YEA at least I got something in these week... My husband is wanting to start walking, so I am hoping this will help me with my exercise challenge....

Third Week : Goal for this week is to complete at least Four days of some type of exercise....
3-12-07 Paid Bills - "STRESS"
3-13-07 Took a 20 min walk with my husband.... YEA - Really was a beautiful day...
3-14-07 5 mins of chair exercises/stretches at work...
3-15-07 Took a 25 min walk with my husband.... today...
3-16-07 nothing today...
3-17-07 Took a 15 min walk in the park with my grandaugher and husband and feed the canadian geese and ducks popcorn...
3-18-07 nothing today... but I did go shopping - does that count...

Well - starting the week off in a good mood.... Today is my weigh in day and I loss 3 lbs last week... Gosh - Do you think this exercise stuff is for real Anyway, it has been really hard for me to get into this exercise business but as I look back I see that I am at least moving a little and am off the couch more.
Four week - is to do at least 5 mins a day of any type of exercise or stretching on my break at work....and get at least 3 walks in or 3 sets of 10 sit-ups this week..
3-19-07 25 min Walk and 10 sit-ups because it was a busy day and work and no real time for a break...
3-20-07 4 mins of continuous marching by my desk and 2 mins of back-neck-arm stretching...
3-21-07 Nothing Today - except I did go to the doctor - my shoulder has been hurting since Saturday, after I picked up and held my granddaugther...He wants me to take a cordazon shot....but I want to try the anti inflammatory medicine first...I don't like shots
3-22-07 Marched and Danced for 8 mins on my break.. ..
3-23-07 Today I have done 10 mins of dancing on my break... I don't think it is helping my shoulder right now thou. ..I should probably just do the walking for the rest of the week...
3-24-07 Not doing well today, the side effects from the medicine for my shoulder was to much today. major dizziness, nausea etc... very scary... ate bread products to give me extra strenght and help with nausea...even though I still got sick... I quit taking the medicine....I hope tomorrow is better...
3-25-07 Nothing today...My equal liberum is still messed up....

Well, now I am finally inspired.
Girl, you are impressive!!! Since I found out I need to get the HDL level
up, I keep hearing the "E" word!!! Yuck!!! I know it is a four letter word but the closest I can come is five letters------XRSIZ???!!!!!! Oh well,
it's time to get over the "Kathy Feel Sorry for Herself Week"" and get to moving. Okay, sometime soon, I'll do that!!! Okay, tomorrow. Please don't check on me, I don't want to lie!! Okay, the next day, I promise!!
It's sweet that your family is walking with you. My family would probably follow me in the car. I'd be a nervous wreck, because they'd start talking on their cell phones or something and run over me!!! That's not healthy, are you sure this is going to be healthy for me?? May I borrow some of your family members? Do you know anyone with oxygen tanks?
Can I borrow those, too!!
I'm not a crybaby, I'm not a crybaby, I'm a crybaby!!
Where did that inspiration I had go?
Oh, well, Hallelujah, anyway!!!
Kathy
P.S. I promise I'll exercise but, don't call me, I'll call you!! _________________ "Thou shalt not weigh more than thy refrigerator!"

Kathy, you are too funny!!! I feel your pain...I too need to get my lazy, oversized, backside off this couch and get with it too. The sad part is I paid a fortune for a very nice treadmill back in November, and all it has been, is an expensive thing to hang clothes on.
I must get myself motivated too. Maybe next week. Oh well, hang in there, and thanks for your wonderful sense of humor.
