David - Thanks for the sticky, I am sure this will help many of the newcomers and is a great refresher for those of us that have been doing this for awhile. One tip I would like to add is something that I did when I first began LCing and my family was doing LC. I took that list and put the "allowed" items on a large index card, one for each area of the store, ie:produce, meats, frozen, condiments etc. This made it easier in the beginning to help me remember which items were okay for me. Now it is just second nature, practice makes it easier. Hope this helps.

What a wonderful presentation David! My dog eared page from George's cookbook will get a rest as I print several copies of your sticky and put them in my kitchen, pantry and purse. Thank you so much. And, Susan, thanks so much for the index card idea, I will certainly add that to my list of things to do.

|
|
Hello David,
Nice to meet you. I have been away from group few months. I had bad reaction with my blood sugar after eating some sugar today so immediately ground up some fresh steak and made hamburger with mozarella cheese crisp. Can not believe that actually started to feel much better in couple hours. So I made another hamburger with cheese.
Have question, my starting weight is just few under your startig weight and notice from your pictures you do not appear to have loose skin. I know this is personal question however, I am desperately looking for answer. Did you have problem with very loose skin when lost your weight ? I am very concerned because spoke with someone that lost all her weight while eating alot of carbs and then had to have surgery to have it removed. I have heard that while doing low carb, most people do not experience the problem with alot of loose skin. What has your experience been or what have you heard from others? Am I just destined to have alot of loose belly fat ? YIKES !
Thanks For Taking Time To Read This,
KM |

KMElizabeth, Hey and yes I remember a post from you back in December and it is very nice to meet you! Happy Birthday once again! I am a nurse and say that because the Doctors and myself were discussing that very subject a couple of months ago. I think number one you already have seen the results of what sugar is doing to your body! Stop it now while you still can and I promise you it is NEVER to late! It is and can be discouraging when you have that much to lose but one step at a time will get you there and I say that from personal experience. The art of eating a high protein diet seems to have some effect on those of us that lose weight as it tends to "heal" the skin and promote elasticity thereby reducing loose skin. So far so good and I don't have any yet. I have also noticed that almost EVERYONE who has had bariatric surgery needed the surgery afterward to remove loose skin. I do not need a complicated surgery when all I have to do to lose weight, eat great, enjoy it and NOT have loose skin is to eat low carb. The benefits of this WOL (way of life) are just to many to mention and that is why I am so passionate about it. I have seen and personally experienced many of it's results. Join us, chat with us for support and encouragement, make up your mind you can do this, stay true for a month and the results you get will keep you on track. I personally will be here for ya if you need anything and I am able to help! What a wonderful Birthday present to give yourself today by starting low carb WOE and increases your stamina, your energy, your health and most importantly, your life. I sincerely hope you join us! Take care and welcome to the site,

David,
Thank you for such a quick reply. The way you explained makes so much sense. I feel better knowing what you said. I also like the fact that whole grains are good food choice. I need some carbs, my brain works better. I like whole grain organic brown rice and steal cut oats, lots of vegetables, seafood, egg whites and fruit and sf soy milk. Also like fact that can have some beans. I have to look up the guide lines again to get re acquainted with the rules.
Thank you for the kind words and warm welcome. I also really enjoy your pics with your family, your family is lucky to have such a caring person in their lives. They are probably the same way, I am sure your ways are contagious.
Have A Great Week,

Hello,
I went back to look at the food lists and did not see any grains. Oh my goodness, this is going to be a little difficult.

Elizabeth, you are quite welcome! I totally understand your predicament! Thinking that you can not have certain comfort foods that you are used to having can be a challenge and also intimidating. I can assure you however that by being creative, you can very easily "fool" your mind and still enjoy a healthy low carb lifestyle that DOES include those carbs you stated you needed. The catch here is giving you the good carbs and not the bad. Carbs naturally occur in many veggies that are allowed. In place of oats, try the flax meal (Dinah's recipe is so good) and it really satisfies your craving for hot cereal. Instead of regular bread use whole wheat or an alternative recipe as there are many here on this site. "Adapt, Improvise and Overcome!" that is the Marine Corps motto I was taught and I have found that it can be applied to any situation almost always! Just learn to be creative and you won't feel as if you are deprived of anything and eventually, you will lose those constant craving for bad carbs I promise! The many members, support, recipes, tips and tricks here are all what makes it all come together. It's like building a house for free. We give you the supplies, equip you with the proper tools and then give you instructions on how to build it. All it take's is a little effort to get it done (Man I hope I didn't just sound like Larry the Cable Guy) The overall results will weigh far more heavily than the agony it seems we have in the initial stages of this lifestyle. addiction is a hard thing to break but is doable! The worse off the cravings are, the more detrimental they more than likely are to your body. Take care, you can do this and again, if ya need me, I am right here on www.stellastyle.com,

David - thank you so much for all your care and help. I am one of the newbys for sure! I have both of George's books and love them. I've made some wonderful recipes from them and from the Dana Carpenter cookbooks. But for you to take the time to help all of us really brings me to an emotional tear to think that there are people out there that I don't even know that care for others to the degree that you do. You are truly an angel in my life. I have added you to my "favorites" because I always want to be able to get you if I need help! Thanks again for doing this work of love. Deb, hey and I must say "Aw shucks" I really don't feel as if I do anything special but I rather try to make it as easy and organized as I can for the new ones coming. I am "Paying it Forward"! I know I use that term quite a bit, but if we all did that, what a great place this earth would be! Also know that anytime you need anything, all you have to do is let me know and I will do all I can to help and find someone who can if I can't. Most people here are like that on this site and that is why I tell people; this site IS the "inside Garden" when I am unable to go outdoors-full of life, growth and beauty! Take care, again welcome and I am sure you will love all the recipes in the book. Visit often as the camaraderie really helps keep you on track plus we just have a lot of fun. Take care Deb and Blessings to you and yours,

|
|
Hi David, maybe you can help me figure out why I am not able to log into my "OnDemand" stuff. I have paid the $34.95 and it has cleared my bank account, but it does what I've seen others have trouble with - which is kick me off and ask me to login again. I have looked at the stuff we are supposed to check, like the cookies, etc. but still no luck. I am using a Mac and the instructions that I see don's have anything specific to that. I will be the first to tell you, I'm learning a lot as I go! (I've also made my account on photobucket and am trying to get a picture on this site!) I am really excited to see the recipes, etc. on demand and so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have emailed George and Anthony, but only yesterday, so I haven't had a chance to hear from them yet. I'm betting you have an idea as to what t do!
Thanks for the reply back, too! I loved what you say about an "inside garden! What a wonderful concept. Here's to a wonderful day filled with everyone's support and care. Thanks again. Deb _________________ The only difference between stumbling blocks and stepping stones is the way you use them! |
