I talked with my doc about getting an IUD, does anyone know anything about them or better yet does anyone have one? I did some research on the net about them but I am not sure about it. I really want to do it, but I am afraid something will go wrong!
Help!!

I used one years ago, and had no problem whatsoever. and I think they have improved on them greatly in the last 10 years. Heck of a lot better than any thing else I tried... diaphragm.... ewwwwww!!!! _________________ Dingie Dinah

My sister used one way back before they took them off the market....her's slipped, caused a lot of pain and infection and had to be surgically removed. I don't think the new ones are problematic like the old ones though. _________________ Foxye

I have it... two of the OBGYNs in the practice I go to have it... The rest of the world uses these more often than the pill. I can't do the pill because of side effects but didn't want to be sterilized. Who knows I could wake up in a few years and want another little baby?
Anyway it lasts five years... makes your periods almost nonexistent...is as effective as sterilization... what's not to love? _________________ "It is never too late to be what you might have been" - George Eliot |

did you have any weight gain? It seems every time I go on some kind of hormones I gain weight! Right now i have nothing floatin around in my system, so I am worried about putting something in it. I have not taken any kind of BC since my youngest was born almost 7 years ago! I don't want to sound silly, but, I don't want to gain weight, maybe I will just keep doing what I am doing and keep my fingers crossed! Ofcourse getting preggers again would make me gain alot of weight, oh darn I don't know what to do?!!?

The hormone dose is so low, is local to the uterus and doesn't really enter your blood stream. Never heard of any weight gain with this.. you could ask your Dr. about that though. Of course I've lost weight on low carb since it was put in. (Had it put in before I went on this WOE). I have found that hoping for the best usually results in an expansion to our family though! LOL! Good luck with your decision though! _________________ "It is never too late to be what you might have been" - George Eliot |

| It's a hard decision, I know. I would strongly advise staying away from synthetic hormones as a form of birth control. Trust me, you don't want to mess up your hormones. The side effects and possible future side affects aren't worth it. |
