Hello,

I went for yearly exam {however this time I waited 2 years}
Received a letter in mail today that pap normal however positive for hpv and is common an usually heals its self The letter also says to come back in 1 year for follow up This makes me nervous I searched the web and didn't think should wait a year for follow up I had a pre cancerous condition few years back and now this that has potential for turning into something more but not necessarily ? this is according to webmd and my doctor ofc I would think that due to my history that they would want to take this a step further Hopeful the nurse will call me back tomorrow before the weekend
Anyone else have any input or experience This is freaking me out a little Thanks In Advance Elizabeth

Personally I don't have experience but I would bet mine comes back positive when I go the next time ( haven't been in YEARS ). I think they just recently started testing everyone for it when the vaccine came out.

From what I know, it is something that can lead to cervical cancer. However, it is very common...a large percentage of women are infected. It is something that is good to be aware of but don't freak out.

According to WebMD
"Most sexually active women and men will contract HPV at some time in their lifetime. Most will never even know it. Usually, this virus does not cause any symptoms and doesn't cause disease. Often, the body can clear HPV infection on its own within two years or less."

With your situation you may want to be checked again in 6 mths but that is up to you and your doc.

Good luck and take a deep breath Smile I know it is scary ( as someone who has had an abnormal pap and a biopsy ) but I am sure everything will come out ok.

Hello Denise,
Thank you very much for your response
The nurse called me early this morning and said that many people get this and can actually stay undetected for years and many people are able to fight this off naturally as you stated however could take up to 1 to 2 years to clear Is however important to still get tested and pap for any changes She said to come back in a year and I asked what you suggested if could come back every 6 months and she said certainly and if for any reasson need to come in sooner to just call
Will not think negatively not necessarily the best thing to do right ?
Thanks for listening
Have A Great Weekend,
Liz

I've tested positive for HPV for a numbr of years. So far it has not led to any cancerous developments - although I have had numberous tests, incuding a cervical biopsy when they detected some "irregularities" a couple of years ago. Don't freak out! This is pretty common now that they are regularly testing for it - I can think of a half dozen women friends who have all had the same issue. Hormones can aggravate the condition = so if you are currently taking any form of BCP, or other hormones you may want to do some reseach on that, and consult with your doc. Keep up with your doctors appointments, get your pap smears, keep eating healthy Smile.
