I am trying to locate Dinah's recipe I have heard so much about for the Hot Flax Seed Cereal. I tried to find it in this section of the forum - maybe I am staring at it!! (Sorry, if that is the case)
Thanks

OMG I tried this last night as a snack and it is really satisfying, like oatmeal. It gets pretty thick so I added 1/4 cup water and I only nuked it for 1 minute and much better. I added butter and cinnamon & splenda and I am so happy to have tried it. I love oatmeal, and I'm going to try using the flax seed in place of breadcrumbs for my old meatloaf recipe and see what happens, actually I think I'll try 1/2 the flax & 1/2 parmesean to see how that works out.
This hot cereal is a wonderful alternative and a nice little snack that is really filling because it's all fiber. Thanks Dinah, Colleen & Billie!!!!

| I love this recipe. I also made some adjustments of my own. I add peanut butter and agave nectar (low glycemic) to the cereal. It is my treat for the day. It is so good and satisfying. |

I found a LC Hot Cereal recipe in Low Carb mag (now in print only on line) about a year ago, I think its great and it has lots of possibilities.
1 C Falxmeal
1 C vanilla protein powder
1/2 C Wheat bran
1/4 C Oat bran
1/2 C raw almonds, coarsely ground
1/4 C raw unsalted sunflower kernels, coarsely ground
Each serving is about 5.5 G.
Combine all ingredients, makes about 14, 1/4 C servings.
The rec. calls for 4 oz. of water, I like it a little runny so I add 6 oz.
Nuke it for 1 1/2 to 2 mins. stopping 2 or 3 times to stir.
Add butter and enjoy. |

Diane,
I also love this but also think it is thick.Did you had the water AND the cream??I put alittle vanilla coffee creamer in it with alittle splenda and cinnamon. It's quite yummy. I know I shouldn't probably be usin the creamer, but it's all I had.

Rodie,
It does come out quite thick. For myself, I stir in extra boiling water. I don't put it in the microwave. I just pour boiling water over the top and keep adding until it's the consistency I like. Then I put a little Smart Balance/butter and cream on top with some Splenda and cinnamon. The other day I used peanut butter and it was great. Hope this helps.

to be honest, when i posted the "recipe" i estimated on quantities. Cause when I make it, I just "eyeball" it. So it probably would do better with more of the liquid of your choice....
I haven't made this in a really long time. I need to!!! _________________ Dingie Dinah

Dinah:Thanks for this recipe. It is a great substitution for cream of wheat and the fiber in the flaxseed is an added benefit.

Dianh. I too wanted to thank you for this awesome breakfast. I had no time this morning and threw it togehter and adored it. The only probably I had is that it filled me up so much, that I had to MAKE myself eat lunch. I don't think I have ever had that problem in my entire life!! Just crazy

| I got an original recipe online that uses 1/2 c flax meal, 1/2 c water and 1 beaten egg. I mix that together and let it sit for almost a minute then microwave for 1 min. Then I add SF Vanilla syrup, cinnamon, heavy cream and butter. Microwave for another 45 seconds. Sam likes it for a snack sometimes! Definitely filling! |
