I see alot of recipes that call for Flank steak. Is that what it is called in the grocery stores. I look every time I go and cannot find Flank Steak??? What is it I am looking for???? Thanks shortstuff

Flank steak = Skirt steak = fajita

Make sure the membrane is peeled off. It is tough.

I don't think it has ever had the membrane on it when I bought it as flanksteak.
But if you find it as skirt steak or fajita I guess it usually does. It had been so long since I have seen it as either of those I had forgotten.

It seems to depend on the part of the country you are in as to how you will usually find it.

skirt steak is long and thinner than flank steak.....Flank is thicker and almost square and kinda tapers on the end.

I added grilled chicken to the casserole and had a whole dinner....love it. I also think it's best with extra sharp cheddar. though have tried it with mozzarella and parm and it was pretty good

Mark - I have to thank you big time, I made this tonite for the family, undercooked the spaghetti squash just slightly and it turned out fantastic. My son actually thought I had made a hash brown casserole. Thank you so much for sharing this, I am definitely bringing this dish to get togethers. Fantastic !

Stupid question,
When you cut the spaghetti squash, do you cut it lengthwise or crosswise? Embarassed

I used to always cut it lengthwise, but I often cut it crosswise now. I saw something somewhere about spaghetti squash, and it showed cutting it crosswise. I think the strands are actually growing where if you cut it crosswise, you actually get longer stands that way. It's somewhat easier to cut crosswise, but actually maybe a little harder to scoop out that way with a large squash.
I started cooking mine the way DebB reccomends, tho maybe not as long. I like that better I think than cooking in water. I still have a hard time getting myself to cook in the microwave (even cut in half first) after having my first one I ever tired years ago explode! (That was long before doing low carb, and a long time before I ever cooked another.)

Here is the link to DebB's squash:
http://recipecircus.com/recipes/SomersizinDebB/VEGETABLES/Spaghetti_Squash_-_Carmelized_Baked.html

And a couple of links about her squash on here:

http://stellastyle.com/community2/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6088&highlight=squash

Just found this site about spaghetti squash:
http://www.fabulousfoods.com/features/featuring/spagsquash.html This one does show cutting it lengthwise.

And on wikpedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaghetti_squash (This tells how to cook it in a crock pot. Never thought of that.)
