Tish,
I just found this post as well, so you are not alone.
I never had joint pain, however, I've noticed swelling in my feet and hands and bloating and never knew why. I bought some stevia but not sure how to use it. I think maybe picked up wrong product, I'll take it to natural food store with me next time and see if can get some information on how to use. Would really like to know if can bake with it.

Also, aspartame sp? makes me dizzy and feel like going to pass out so can't use or if visiting somewhere and is all they have I may drink just a little or just drink water. I remember falling to my knees in my basement with the room spinning after drinking a couple cans of soda that had this sweetener in it. Won't be touching this stuff again. I have enough problems with migraines and side effects and don't need to be adding anything else into the mix.

I never researched this on my own. One of my doctors gave me a print out on splenda and though can't remember everything it said, there were definitely some scary things listed like nervous system disturbances, bloating, headaches/migraine, irritability there were more, though this was enough to make me stop using it. Then the silliest thing I do is that when I don't have the symptoms any longer and forget about the way I feel, then will try it again and then remember how could I have forgotten what this stuff did to me the first time. Maybe just wanted to prove to myself that was really the product.

Hope all is well,
Elizabeth

I guess it's all got some pretty serious problems. I'm trying to break away from it all, anyway. The whole idea of the Atkins diet (and the others that are low in sugar) is to wean you off your sugar cravings, not to keep them going with other sweeteners!

Tish,
The Atkins diet tries to get one off of sugar/sugar substitutes ?
I remember reading their nutrition bars and there has to be something in them because they are very sweet.

Today I am drinking a small glass of diet caffeine free coke, I don't know if I ever had this before and though is quite tasty I fear that too much may cause problems later. Crossing fingers that can get by with one of these sweeteners. I saw recently that there is a new one on the market, I can't recall the name of it, but believe is made from stevia.

I'm going to buy the packets and see how I do with that.
If you are familiar with this product is it any good ?

Have a nice weekend,
Elizabeth

This is very true. Someday I would LOVE to be free from all sweeteners. In the meantime, I am very dependent on my splenda. I have eaten it liberally (mostly the liquid type) throughout my LC journey and it has helped keep me on track. I went four days without it once, which was quite a feat for me. But in the beginning I would have never been able to stick to LC without artificial sweeteners. So it's necessary for me at this point and the lesser of two evils (splenda vs. sugar).

I have heard that NuNaturals has a very good tasting stevia but I've never had any.

Elizabeth, I tried several times this afternoon to answer your question but the site wouldn't take my login. Rolling Eyes

I think what you're referring to is Truvia. I picked up a box today during my lunch break. 40 packets for $3.99. I took a little taste test, it's much better than Stevia. Sweet. I'm going to try it over the weekend, see if I can have it without joint pain. If so, it's a go, for the occasional treat.
