9. Freeze milk. Stock up when it goes on sale, but make sure to pour a little bit out of the jug before freezing so it doesn't burst.
I got that from a Paula Deen Magazine email. It was in a cost savings tip list. did you know this? I sure didn't! But around here, milk doesn't last that long anyway..... Just amazed me for some reason.... _________________ Dingie Dinah

| Yes, when you are freezing any liquids, you have to allow head space for the expansion of the product....this will apply to soups, stews, etc as well. |

A friend of mine does this all the time. I don't like how it tastes after it has thawed though. But it is a good way to stock up during sales. _________________ Angie

I knew that part Dances, I was just amazed you could freeze milk! Never crossed my mind before.... Although milk doesn't last that long around my house. _________________ Dingie Dinah

Dinah, LOL I thought you meant the part about having to take some out of the container first. I have not done milk in years, but when we had the huge chest freezer for 10 people I froze milk at times when I stocked up on a sale/coupon, or had been given so much from a local farmer for all the kids. My mother/family use to freeze milk a lot when I was growing up because when you can only get to the grocers once a month, or are snowed in from town that was an hour drive or more in the winter....it is one of those items you don't want to have to be without. Freezing milk might be a cultural thing. I would bet someone living in a warmer climate with mild winters might not have to consider that option. For the rest of us....it was a way of life.  |

I worked at a Food bank and we froze milk as is all the time before the pull date. We Rarely had anything break. We did make sure all containers were up right.
The only thing we would tell people is that if the milk has milk fat in it you have to let it thaw and then heat it on the stove on low - med just to warm the milk so the milk fat will re incorporate in to the milk. Then just re cool the milk and it is good as new.
If you do it this way it does not have that funny taste or fat floaties. _________________

LOL, yeah dances, I never figured about freezing milk. Don't know why that blew my mind, but it sure did! I did know about the freezing thing tho. Been doing that all my life, just never placed any cow juice in the freezer!! LOL _________________ Dingie Dinah

I have frozen it before, tho not often. My sister used to be able to get it on sale alot, and froze it all the time when her kids were growing up.
You need to be sure it is thoroughly thawed, and mix well. (I always shake the jug well.) _________________ Billie
