I usually add a little splenda with the fruit or nuts. You might need to add more sugar substitute with your blueberries

I love this yogurt but I do often enjoy things that others find too strongly flavored or offensive, like unsweet tea and licorice. So, I might not be the best judge of things. Smile

I don't want to start a controversy here but the bacteria eating the lactose - I read that too but it seems like wishful thinking. My yogurt from one week to the next does not taste less sweet. I love yogurt too but I don't have it often. I used to like the carb control one by Dannon but I don't see it around anymore.

Michelle, I'm not sure what you mean by the Fage having a strong taste- strong yogurt taste? Although, when I first started eating yogurt I didn't even like it. My college classmates would buy it and it looked so good. So I would buy one, take a bite and give it away. I did this many times before I began to eat the whole serving. Now I love it and I really liked the Fage but expensive. I bought the plain Fage but I sweetened and flavored it and I like it pretty sweet. I don't like plain yogurt! Anyway, I don't know exactly how to help you. If you don't like it, you just may not like it. Donna

I love yogurt and plain yogurt doesn't bother me, but this stuff is like eating playdough! Its so thick and tastes so much stronger than non strained yogurts. I guess a lot of it is just a matter af taste. I guess I just don't like the thick texture, I like my yogurt to be much softer. Thanks for trying. I will try to sweeten it up a bit, but it is just not creamy enough for me.

Michelle, sorry I have not been on site for a while to ask.... but did you add the cream after you let the yogurt drain? When the cream is added it smooths out the consistency to the same as most yogurts. It would be like paste and very strong without adding the whipping or heavy cream. Donna

Well, that would be why I was confused! It sounded like the thread was meaning that they drained the other yogurts to make them taste more like the fage. I did not add cream because I thought that's what you were doing to other yogurts to get the same effect thatthe fage already supposedly had. I will try it with cream next time. Now I feel like a dope! Embarassed

Can I ask why you drain it when there is so little liquid in it as it is? The Fage I bought was like school paste straight from the container. It is almost the consistency of cream cheese, I would think that there isn't much to drain.

Michelle,
They are not adding cream to Fage yogurt. They are draining regular plain yogurt, then adding the cream, which was supposed to make it more like the Fage.

I have never even seen Fage yogurt must less eaten it, so I can't speak as to the taste or texture of Fage.

The strongeness of the taste of the drained yogurt would depend on the taste strength of the yogurt being drained. Drained yogurt without the added cream (spoken of here) is usually called yogurt cheese. Fage, I'm assuming isn't drained all the way down. (did that make sense) It must still have some of the whey in it to make it a thick yogurt consistancy. But I'm guessing here. (since I've never even seen it)

Hmmmm,,, rereading your post, maybe Fage yogurt is like yogurt cheese.

Billie, that's exactly what I thought I was reading! so they are draining other yogurts and adding cream to them to make them taste like Fage. Which is how I read it. I wasn't confused after all! HA! But what I think the problem must be is that my Fage is already drained. It says Greek strained yogurt right on the package. I am guessing that the others must have had a non-strained variety, so they strain other yogurt and add cream. My Fage is definitely already strained.

Melissa, it is my understanding from what I've read about the Fage, is that it is a drained yogurt.
I think that they just just liked the flavor with the cream added. The first one to post about it, Donna saw cream in the ingredient list, and added to her drained yogurt.

If they are eating that fage with no added cream - I give them credit - its gross unless you add more! Way too thick for me that way.

btw - its Michelle Wink

Michelle, I had seen Angie post about how good Fage yogurt was. When I was at Whole Foods one day I saw a small individual container which I purchased to try. It was flavored and was the consistency of other yogurts that I had eaten except that it was much creamier. I didn't think that it was particularly strong and it was't the consistency of cream cheese. I couldn't afford to purchase it on a regular bases because of the cost. It also had less carbs if I remember correctly. When I read the ingredients I realized that they had added cream and obviously had strain it to remove the whey and lower the carbs. Thus the idea to try straining another brand of plain yogurt to make yogurt cheese and then adding cream to it. It was so close to the original I had tried that I named it "Faux Fage" and posted the recipe. I love to add lemon concentrate and sweetener. I'm sorry about the confusion. I went back and retitled this thread as "Faux Fage yogurt". Donna

Thanks so much for the explanation. When I read the package of Fage that I bought, it was plain strained yogurt. It did have cream in it, but it was absolutely too thick to eat straight. I am guessing that it was not completely strained, because it was not called yogurt cheese, but it was darned close! I added more cream, some splenda, and some berries and it was very good! Without it, it was impossible to stomach.
