Indygirl, You need encouragement?? you got it!! that's how we get to our goal!!! Yea I was most def. addicted to carbs too! We can get over that with real foods huh? I did the 20 carbs and kept my carbs low like that until I reached my goal. I've slipped many times but I've always got back up and got on track (that just hurt me and made it alot harder for me) Remember we are here for support any time you need it post and someone will be there to help you out! As for chatting I'm not sure on that one maybe post that question in the "General Discussion" section and see what happends I'm not really sure. Good luck and keep reading and searching!! I too am very grateful for the Stella's!

Good Luck indygirl! I am glad you have found a good support system here on the site. We all try to help each other and staying on track is so much easier! I know with all the recipes here on the site, you will have your taste buds dancing in no time at all! Keep up the good work and anytime you need help, just holler and I will do all I can! Take care and eat fresh,

Do you keep a list of the number of carbs consumed daily? Like a journal but just with carb counts?
I'm wondering if that is something I should do or just keep eating LC foods and see what happens. |

Hi Lisar,
I do both - I generally cook and eat from the wealth of allowable foods.
I keep a rough track of carbs in my head most days. But if you are just starting out it is good to track it all for a few weeks till you get an idea of what things are adding carbs. After you get the feel for it - just spot check from time to time to avoid the dreaded carb creep.
I keep a note book in my kitchen drawer so I can write down what I am eating during the day. Plus if I make something I like I try to write down what I did and the carb and calorie amounts.
I find on the days I am tracking things to know both the carb and calorie amounts. That way I can adjust portions sizes and make lower choices along the way. I may love a particular dessert but if the calories are huge I may need to split it down into reasonable portions or simply not have second dessert again later in the day. If you don't know its hard to make adjustments. _________________

Wow. This thread is wonderful. Such great answers to so many questions.
And David, I can't thank you enough for that fantastic shopping list. It's so helpful to us newbies to this woe.
I do have a question please. What about the Hunts Sugar Free Puddings? I sure hope they're okay, because I just had one with some beautiful strawberries after a big portion of rotisserie chicken. I'm thinking this meal cannot be good, because it was too GOOD!!
And what about the skin on the chicken? We've been so indoctrinated that it's not good for us, but I just love it, so if it's not a no-no item, I will truly be a happy girl.
I know this is going to work for me with all your help. How do I know that? Because I just looked outside and there's a beautiful rainbow in the sky. It's got to be an omen!!

Anne, I'm not really sure about the Hunt's sugar free puddings, but I'd suspect that they contain flour. If you are OK with the sweetener (I don't know what the ingredients are), and the carb count is really low, then maybe once in a while they would be OK.
Without knowing the ingredients tho, I really can't say for sure.
As for the skin, I eat it. That on the store bought Rotisserie chicken might not be the best, because they soak or rub it with some ingredients that isn't the best for us. But, as I said I do eat it. As for the skin of chicken that you fix yourself with legal ingredients, I say go for it. I have never believed that it wasn't good for you. Oh, I have gotten taken in by all the hubbabaloo, and have many a times skinned my chicken, and thrown the skin out, but I don't think I ever really believed it was bad. I'm really not fond of it tho, unless it is crispy, and maybe that is why I often skinned it, cause it wasn't gonna be crispy. I do usually eat the skin from the Rotisserie chicken tho for the most part. _________________ Billie

Thanks for the reply. Of course, I threw the box away already, and there are no ingredients listed on the individual cups. I can't find it online either. Guess I'll just be careful and not eat it too often.
I totally agree with you about the skin, and I don't like it unless it's crispy either.
I will get this all figured out eventually. I'm sure I'll make mistakes along the way, but you guys are all such a huge help, that I'm sure I won't be making as many of those boo boos as I would on my own.
And thanks to George's books, I should be able to keep boo boos to a minimum if I just use his recipes. |

I looked online too. I found the pudding cups, but no ingredient list. I looked at the Vanilla one, it is (to me anyway) fairly high carb at least to eat very often. (Again, I think it is mostly cause they use flour in it.) 8g per serving.
I certainly don't think your eating one today was a disaster tho.
We all make mistakes along the way!!! It is definitely a learning experience.
Happy low carbing!!! _________________ Billie

Well, guess I might as well jump right in! Hi everyone!
David, this shopping list is phenomenal! Thank you so much for having such a comprehensive resource put together for those of us who are new to the LC WOL! I have already purchased many of the staples listed, but now see there is much more I need to stock up on.
I've done Atkins/SB type diets before, and been quite successful. Problem for me has always been after the induction phases, transitioning to a LC WOL that is do-able for the long term. I tend to give up after completing "Phase 2" of the other diets. I needed a LIFESTYLE change. I think I've finally found my answer with SS.
I loved George's show on FN, and learned so much from watching about preparing low carb meals.
Then... a few weeks ago, I had just restarted my New Year's attempt at reviving my LC diet, and was channel surfing... and lo & behold! ~ There's George on QVC! I was so thrilled! I have ordered the new cookbook, but am on waitlist! BOO! I have the older Eating Stella Style, which I recently purchased. In the meantime, I have found this website, which I never knew about. What a plethora of valuable information!
Anyway, that's about it. I'm really glad to have found this site, and look forward to interacting with you all on the road to a new LC lifestyle.
Cheers!

Most problems have been addressed there. There is a sticky of FAQs in the General forum. It has links to lots of as the name says Most Frequently Asked Questions about Stella Style WOL!!!. For that matter be sure to check out all the stickies when you have a question. Good chance it may have been answered in the FAQ's or other stickies.
Check out the home page:

Kate, if you ordered the books on the first airing (Jan), then your book should be on it's way tomorrow!
I'm sure you'll like it here. We're a friendly bunch. Of course everyone is busy, and sometimes it gets pretty "quiet" around here. But if you have questions, just ask away. Someone is bound to try to help you out. _________________ Billie

You're welcome.
Mine still shows wait list this morning too. But hopefully they will go out today as scheduled. Well, actually on looking again, mine says: advanced sale! Says scheduled delivery date 2/26. _________________ Billie
