No sillies, not me........the weather!! Laughing

Yesterday, I finally made the decision to get out and walk, even if it killed me. I've been sitting in front of the tv and the computer and not moving at all, and at 67 years old (young?), that's the worst thing I could be doing to myself.

So, yesterday, I managed to do 3/10ths of a mile. I really wanted to go further, but we've been having a ghastly heat wave, and the humidity is brutal. We're breaking records, even for our area in Florida (in October). Actually, for the first day, I don't think that's bad. It's at least a start.

While I'm really happy with yesterday's accomplishment, I knew it was really dumb to go out at the hottest part of the day, so today I got out earlier. It's already steamy out there, but I did TA-DA------1/2 mile!!

Okay, we all have to start with baby steps, right? Today, I would have done more (and might), but this past year, I find heat and humidity have a bad effect on my breathing, so I can push it just so far. I suspect it's probably a very mild case of COPD, since only certain conditions seem to trigger it.

In any event, I'm proud of me for finally getting up and moving. Do I have to force myself to do it? You betcha, but if that's what it takes, that's what it's going to take.

Smile Anne

**Update........ I forced myself to get out and do another 1/2 mile, since there's a slight breeze blowing (a warm breeze, but better than nothing). After 3 round trips (3/10ths of a mile), I pushed myself (thinking of the Biggest Loser all the while), and managed to do another two round trips. Now I know what it's like to walk in MY shoes. lol Do we have a smiley for patting myself on the back?

Good for you Anne!!!! It's a great start.
I can relate to what you are saying about trying to walk, and the heat & humidity. I started walking down in SO TX back in the summer. Found I couldn't & shouldn't try to do it during the late morning or afternoons. I'm not a morning person, but was having to get up early with my DH, and so started going out at 6:00. Even then it was already hot, and very humid. I worked my way up to about 2 1/4 miles a day. A few days & got too hot. Almost got sick at least once, if not a few times.
When I got back home (WY) I started doing the treadmill. I started adding a little more distance, and got up to 2 3/4 miles.
But, I'm ashamed to say I've been very lazy the last couple of weeks. Haven't been on it. Embarassed
Sometimes I did have to do other things, but mostly just lazy!!!

Give yourself a BIG pat on the back!!!! You've earned it!!!! Hmmm..... don't think I've seen a pat on the back smiley I'm afraid. There should be one!

Thanks y'all,

I am pertty well proud of myself. Now I just hope I can keep that motivation going. When I lost the 60 pounds on WWs, I never moved at all, but we already know that's not the way to do it.

Because of all the aches and pains that go with aging, I'm thinking it's more important now than ever to keep this ol bod in motion. I also think that exercising, even just a little every day, will help with those occasional breathing problems I seem to have developed.

So thanks again for all the encouragment. It means the world to me.

I am so proud for you! I know it takes a lot of willpower to get doing exercise and you are doing so well! I hope to finally get my exercise baack set up and at least start trying to build up my strengh and stamina. Baby steps are the best way if we do too much one day and it hurts or makes us too tired afterwards we are less likely to do it again. I am so happy for you and now I wanna get a little exercise.

We are supposed to get some cool weather this weekend - fingers crossed! I go out early morning or early evening on my bicycle and it is still hot but more bearable.
