WOW!!! What a great idea! I'd have never thought of it. Thanks for sharing this. It might be worth looking into. This is perfect for apartment dwellers. I'll send that link to my son. _________________ Dingie Dinah

Dinah,
Another great gizmo for us apartment dwellers is an aerogarden. Herbs do exceptionally well in it. My tomatoes not so much. I really should dig mine out and get some seeds for it, now that I actually cook. |

Yeah, I have one of those too Anne. I need to set mine up again, but my DH doesn't like the fact that it stays on for 18 hrs a day. I don't really have a place to put it that it won't irritate someone in the house! Have you seen the little one that looks like a lady bug? cute! _________________ Dingie Dinah

Aerogarden? HUH? I will have to look into that.
What do you grow? Herbs? Veggies? |

Beth Ann,
You can grow just about anything that you can grow in a garden, but depending on the model, they're miniature. I had no luck at all with peppers, and my cherry tomatoes were really sparse. Italian herbs grew like crazy though, and I've heard that lettuce does the same.
There are new versions (and an accessory kit for older versions like mine) that can be added to obtain full sized veggies, but I'm not sure how good that works.
As Dinah mentioned, you need to be prepared to have the lights on 17 to 18 hours a day. It didn't seem to make my electric bill go up (or not by much), but the lights are really bright, so you need a place where it won't disturb anyone. I used to keep mine on the kitchen counter and use it like a nightlight, since it was away from the bedrooms.
This one has one slot less than mine, but it's 1/2 the price I paid:
