| Sugar-free Vanilla Extract:::: If the label does not indicate any sugars or syrups, can I take this to mean sugar-free even if the label does not proclaim it to be sugar free? I'm having a devil of a time trying to locate this vanilla product. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pam |

| Hi David: Thanks so much for the link. You were absolutely right, it was a huge help to my dilemma. I had read the labels on the bottles in the stores but was suspicious as it seemed if a product was actually sugar-free, it would be printed all over the bottle!!!! I had purchased a small, very small, bottle of Singing Dog vanilla extract...I was desperate to make the cheesecake and would have paid a lot more if I had to. Now that my sweet craving is satisfied, I'm looking for more economical measures. Again, thanks for the info. Pam |

If you're feeling somewhat adventurous, you can actually make your own vanilla extract (and citrus extracts for that matter).
Bulk vanilla beans (think 1/4 to 1/2 lb) are very inexpensive to buy on eBay, and from there, all you add is rotgut vodka. So, no sugars, nothing artificial AND it tastes much better than commercially made...and it's easy and inexpensive.
There's detailed instructions on my blog how to brew your own at http://herboudoir.blogspot.com/2009/03/vanilla-i-thought-id-do-little-home.html
Hope that helps!
