No, not a bio......... just the way things seem to go for me. Rolling Eyes

Last year, I decided it was time to give up my old Neon which needed a ton of work, and whose a/c didn't work at all. With rebates, and that special tax incentive, I bit the bullet and bought myself a brand new 2009 Toyota Corolla. And today, the recall was announced!!

What's worse is, they apparently don't even have a fix for the problem yet (sticking accelerator). I've been looking all evening for information on what we're supposed to do, and had no luck. I just came across one article that said owners would be notified when a solution to the problem is found, and in the meanwhile, just keep on driving our cars. Well, isn't that encouraging?

I bought my car because of its reputation for reliability and safety. Could someone check over my head and see if there's a little black cloud follwing me around? Please? Crying or Very sad

OMG that isnt good, you dont want the accelerator sticking while your driving!!!!!!!!! get it to the garage you bought it from I would think is the best bet that isn't just a minor flaw that is down right dangerous. And I worry about you enough driving out there, you know I swear when we go out in the car people aim at us and try and kill us LOL there are also a lot of pedestrians that I think must be having a bad day the way they walk into the roads not looking Laughing

Anne, I know how you feel but on the bright side, Toyota always takes care of their customers and it is a wonderfully built product! The only brand I would put up against it is a Honda (no not cause we have one) and a suburu. I remember awhile back when all the coal miners had all these Toyota trucks for years and then after a frame problem, Toyota gave them like 10,000.00 credit toward another one. I am sure they will get it resolved and you are right it doesn't seem safe with that problem to me. The only thing a sticking acelerator would be useful is if you were bringing one of those cheesecakes to me! Laughing Take care and hope things will get fixed soon,
David Wink

Thanks David.

It's impossible to reach them by phone to day (gee, I wonder why), so I'm just going to sit tight until we're given instructions. From what I've been reading, they aren't even sure how to fix the problem yet.

But I agree with you completely about Toyota. The best car I ever owned was a 77 Corolla (the only other car I ever bought new), and you just couldn't kill that car.

I suspect this problem is not going to be as widespread as it would seem on first blush, but it's something to be aware of. Toyota has already published instructions on what to do if it happens to a vehicle, and since I only use mine to go to the supermarket for now, I'm not going to worry too much. So far, my car has shown no evidence of the problem at all.

Anne, I hope they get it resolved for you. And like you, I'm in love with my Malibu Max. I drove crap cars for years and about 2 yrs ago? i think, I bought this:

barbie

here is what I had before that....

Photobucket

So you see why I love my malibu!!! her name is Barbie, of course. In most of my life, I've always had Chevy's except I did have a Celica when I first got married. 5 speed stick with no airconditioning, but I had a roll back sun roof! It was a sweet ride too, and you are right, you can drive the wheels off of those cars.

I'm with Davie, I'm sure Toyota will fix the problem eventually, but it sure is a PITA till then huh???

I finally found some updated information on the Toyota site. Now don't laugh, but in 11 months, I've put on a whopping 405 miles. Laughing I'm like the little old lady from Pasadena!! But, that's actually good news, because apparently, the condition develops over time . I thought this info might be helpful, so here's the deal:

Quote:

Frequently Asked Questions for the Sticking Accelerator Pedal Recall

What is the condition that has prompted Toyota to take this action?
In rare instances, there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position.

What is the likelihood that my vehicle will experience this condition?
The incidence of this condition is rare and occurs gradually over a period time. It can occur when the pedal mechanism becomes worn and, in certain conditions, the accelerator pedal may become harder to depress, slower to return or, in the worst case, stuck in a partially depressed position.

What should I do if I believe my vehicle is affected by this condition?, i.e. I have noticed that my accelerator pedal is hard to depress, slow to return or is unsmooth during operation.
The vehicle should be driven to the nearest safe location, the engine shut off and a Toyota dealer contacted for assistance.

What if you experience a sticking accelerator pedal while driving?
• Each circumstance may vary, and drivers must use their best judgment, but Toyota recommends taking one of following actions:
• If you need to stop immediately, the vehicle can be controlled by stepping on the brake pedal with both feet using firm and steady pressure. Do not pump the brake pedal as it will deplete the vacuum utilized for the power brake assist.
• Shift the transmission gear selector to the Neutral (N) position and use the brakes to make a controlled stop at the side of the road and turn off the engine.
• If unable to put the vehicle in Neutral, turn the engine OFF. This will not cause loss of steering or braking control, but the power assist to these systems will be lost.
o If the vehicle is equipped with an Engine Start/Stop button, firmly and steadily push the button for at least three seconds to turn off the engine. Do NOT tap the Engine Start/Stop button.
o If the vehicle is equipped with a conventional key-ignition, turn the ignition key to the ACC position to turn off the engine. Do NOT remove the key from the ignition as this will lock the steering wheel.

If I am an owner of one of the affected vehicles, what action do I need to take?
Toyota is working quickly to prepare a correction remedy and will issue owner notifications in the future. No action is required at this time unless you feel you are experiencing this condition. If you are experiencing this condition, immediately contact your nearest Toyota Dealer for assistance.

What should I do if I still have questions or concerns?
If you still have questions or concerns that have not been addressed here, please contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.
The Toyota Customer Experience Center hours are:
Mon - Fri, 5:00 am - 6:00 pm PST
Sat, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm PST

Hey I have a 1989 car with under 27,000 miles on it. I have a secret for low mileage, I have too many cars!

Love your new ride Anne. I love silver. It is so rich looking, even though I never have gotten a silver. Seems like I take what is on the lot and silver is never one o them. I always got blue. I had to recently get another car because my 99 caviler bit the dust. We got a 2003 Buick. Rides nice and my DH can fit in this one. LOl. He wasn't to happy when he had to drive around in my peanut poppers.
Cars are a necessity and it is always nice when we can get what we want. Congrats to all you ladies, who did it your way. We are all worth it, aren't we!

Thanks Paula,

What's funny is I actually wanted the beige, but I also wanted the keyless entry, and silver was all they had with that option. Once I saw it though, I wound up liking the silver better.

Isn't that funny, I always want Blue, and they never have it! I swore to myself I'd never have another Grey car, since I had a cavalier and a lumina that were grey, OH and a corsica, and now this one is grey too! Oh well, when I'm driving I can't see the color anyway. LOL

Anne your car is adorable!

Thank you Dinah,

I was very pleased with the way it looks, but all I wanted was good transportation that had a working a/c.

Yours is pretty cute too.

OMG.. I just realized this conversation is starting to sound like the typical sterotype of how a woman buys a car. Interested in nothing but what color is it? Laughing Actually, after seeing the little old men down here who can't see over the steering wheels, driving hot sports cars, I think women are much more practical (sorry gentlemen).
