Hey there, Judy (I hope I got the name correct), actually there is a good sticky above your post...called the "allowed list" that works for most of us. Do you have any of the books on Low Carbing, or any of George's books? The simple rule of low carbing is to stay away from white foods...except cauliflower which is used in so many ways. Stay away from white bread, white potatoes, sugar and flour...
Good luck with this WOE (way of eating) and welcome to Stella Style. |

Let me encourage you, this will change your life! I try and take a simple approach, and not OCD over it. No flour, sugar, potatoes, corn, stick to berries, cantaloupe, and honey dew for fruits. Read Labels always! Sub almond flour for sweets, and splenda for sugar. I lost 30lbs a few years ago on Atkins, if you go to atkins.com they will provide a strict no-no list, but now with two kids, Atkins just became impossible, stress=sweets for me--so I bought all of Stella's cookbooks and this month just cooked from these, so far I have lost 1o lbs just cooking from his cookbooks! And my hubby and kids LOVE what I have made. That is a miracle in and of itself. Now, we are both teachers, so we are perpetually broke, I got all my cookbooks second hand on Amazon.com to save money, and they were all in perfect condition.
I hope this helps! Good luck, and welcome! |

Welcome to the site, and our Stella Style family Judy!!!
I'm sure you will like it here. Lots of good tips, info, recipes, and support.
Be sure to check out the recipe section. Wonderin about something, check out the search.
It's under Forum on the bar above. Also check out the help from the toolbar, and there is a Help forum also. You'll find a lot of answers there. Because of spam & bad posts being able attack this section, it has been closed to new posts, but it is still there to browse, glean answers from. (No spam there now.) Most problems have been addressed there. There is a sticky of FAQs in the General forum. It has links to lots of as the name says Most Frequently Asked Questions about Stella Style WOL!!!. For that matter be sure to check out all the stickies when you have a question. Good chance it may have been answered in the FAQ's or other stickies.
Check out the home page:

Lots of good info there.
You got very good advise from the 2 previous posters! If you are doing Atkins, then like Laura said, you can go to the Atkins site for what foods to eat on induction. If you are doing other low carb "diets" you can do the same with their sites. But if you are basically doing low carb or Stella Style low carb, then induction foods are strictly up to you. Some people follow Atkins inductions, some just eat low carb. There are no SET 1st 2 week foods on Stella Style. But induction will help you to get rid of the cravings sooner (that was the main purpose of induction on Atkins I believe). It would be better if you fained from sweets during the 1st 2 weeks. Also, I think it would be best to stick to very low carb veggies & meals during that time.
One note about the recipes in George's books. The first book is best for starting out. The recipes are lower carb. In the later books he includes recipes for all "stages" of low carb. Some are really not that great for starting out. But everyone is not starting out, so he includes recipes for all.
Check out the carb counts on the recipes, and choose lower ones at first.
That being said, some people lose weight simply by lowering their carbs, and staying with low carb foods. (As Mssarge said, there is an allowed foods list, or good foods list in a sticky in this section above. Check it out.)
Again Welcome!
