| Need ideas for how to make low carb apple pie. I am not opposed to making only the filling low carb because I am not wild about the crust anyway and my family doesn't low carb. But it would not be fall without apple pie of some sort -- or other apple dishes??? I'm buying lots of apples next Saturday so I want to be armed and ready by then. Dishes that freeze well are would be an added bonus. Thanks, all, for your help. |

Sorry, can't help ya... apples are too high in sugars for me to eat right now... once I reach my goal weight... well, that's another story! (But you could probably do an apple crisp type thing using a low carb baking mix or almond flour.) Good luck! _________________ url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/whDwhiA/]

Basically all you would need to do is peel and slice the apples, add sweetener whatever type you use, add the same kind of spices from your favorite apple pie and cook it in a skillet country style in a little bit of butter. Just imagine the kind of cooked apples they have at cracker barrel restaurants. I have always cooked them up and served with pork chops but they would also make a good dessert.
I had another crazy idea about a month ago. Da Vinci has a sugar free apple syrup. I am not sure if it is apple-pie-ish or more like green apple jolly rancher. If it was like pie, then you might be able to peel and deseed cucumbers and slice them, then cook them with the apple syrup to give it an apply taste. I tried someone's recipe a long time ago that made some Greek supper skillet that included cucumbers--they didn't have too much taste but the texture was like apple. I figure that apple syrup might pull it off.
I just haven't got the syrup to try it myself, although I saw it sold online.
If anyone tries that, let me know how it goes.

We always loved having warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Now, I make homemade applesauce, with splenda and cinnamon and serve it warm with a scoop of lc vanilla ice cream. Tastes great and we don't even miss the crust! _________________ "Live each day and be done with it. You have done what you could"

Hi SueL ~ Just wanted to let you know that DaVinci's apple flavor - is green. It's not like an apple pie filling... I've got a bottle and while I haven't tasted it straight from the bottle, I have used it and wasn't real happy with it _________________ Started Somersizing Feb. 2001
