Hello,

Has anyone been diagnosed with hpv ? I have had for 2 years, my paps have been negative. My doctor will be doing a colposcopy next week and though I had one previously I also had a positive pap, this time no positive pap.
Just kind of freaks me out because when I spoke with a nurse practitioner she told me that they are doing this to make sure the pap didn't miss anything ! I felt like screaming " what do you mean maybe something will show that the pap missed, saying this makes me sick to my stomach because each time they are doing the pap I always say "while you're in there get it good, don't miss any area" isn't the area only so big ? how can they not just wipe all around up and down side to side what ever it takes, just swab it" Sorry, I'm frustrated, just can't believe that someone would say that. I could understand if the area was large, were talking about cervix and uterus these areas are not that big.
I had a positive pap in 1997 and had pre cancerous cells and had to go into operating room and have cone done and doctor said she believed she got everything and if there were to be the slightest left that my body would naturally heal.
I did find a support group and though only a few have hpv, there is still much support. Unfortunately there are many women there with many different cancerous conditions and that just breaks my heart. I wish them all well and I am there for them. I read another article on this forum about the ablasion sp? and if there are any concerns I may ask my doctor to do this for me. I do have concern going under anesthesia due to my weight.
Sorry, for being so upset, but I just am and thought maybe someone here might be able to share their experiences.
The nurse did say yesterday when I called to confirm procedure colposcopy/biopsy that she hasn't seen anyone in their office have positive hpv without a positive pap have any major problems after having colposcopy and that they just may ask me to come back again in 6 months instead of a year for another pap. Gee, that's real assuring isn't it ?
I usually don't get this upset, it's just that I'm scared. Here I am trying to lose my weight so can have a better and healthier life with my son and I don't want to be worrying about this for the rest of my life. I've heard some people carry the virus for years before anything happens if anything because most of the time this clears up on it's own. What's the alternative cancer ? I've read that there is no treatment for hpv, so I guess it's just a waiting game to see if turns into something or goes away on it's own.

I'm sorry, I just saw where I had posted something on this in 2007 and the silly thing is I went down the list before posting this to see if I had and didn't see anything.

Thanks to those that posted then and to anyone that may post to my new post.

Everyone have a very nice weekend,
Elizabeth
