Any other men suffer from hypothyroidism? I was diagnosed about 5 years ago and currently take .225 grams of generic synthroid per day.

I have yet to run into another male who is Hypo....seems to run mostly in females and we really don't share the same symptoms. It took the Doc about 3 months to figure out what was wrong with me, because they just don't look for a male to have his thyroid quite working....rather they expect a male to be hyper with Graves disease, and in fact I know a couple of people who have or had Graves.

In general low levels of the thyroid hormone makes me.....sleepy....lethargic....somewhat dizzy...cold....sex drive just goes away....a mental fog.

Over the past 5 years my doctor(s) have never been able to get me to a normal level of T3. My current Doc will not accept this and is intent on getting my meds right. I do not believe he will be successful but I will tolerate the frequent sticks for now.

Well the author was not "guest" but rather "carlking2". Somehow managed to lose my login.

Rick, being a nurse, let me give you some advice if you don't mind. Many times, especially with medication, it takes a lot of trial and error to get the right combination to work. Don't get discouraged and don't give up as your doctor just might find the "right" combination that works for you. I have seen this like you said very infrequently in males so I am afraid I don't have a lot of my "own perception" to base my theory on. Hope you're feeling better, David Wink
