This is from another LC BB. Great for those of us who don't like to use aspartame.
1 packet koolaid (small one non-sweetened)
2 packets gelatin
1 cup hot water
3 cups cold water
Liquid sweetener to taste
Put gelatin in a bowl and pour hot water over it and stir till dissolved, add koolaid packet and stir. Then add 3 cups of cold water and chill for 4 hours or so until stiff.
You can use granulated Splenda instead of the liquid sweetener if you like. |

Sorry --- But what is "aspartame" and why do some people avoid it?
Is this something I should be watching out for?
Thanks!

Ann, Aspartame is a scientific name for Nutrasweet. It is not that it is really bad but I personally think Splenda is better as it is derived from sugar. Many others here will tell you theirs is better and they are right! what ever works for you then do it. I try to limit myself to very little Aspartame as it gives me headaches and at times I think trigger carb cravings. Plus I just like the taste of Splenda. You see the warning on the diet drinks that contain Aspartame? I always wonder what they are scared of. For me and yes it is a personal choice, I like Splenda and I use sweet n Low for my iced tea (yea I know I know but I grew up with it) I don't think you really have to worry if it ain't having an adverse effect on you. Try a Diet Rite cola, then try a diet Pepsi or Coke sweetened with Aspartame. You can really tell the difference or at least I can. I also indulge in a Pepsi One which is sweetened with Splenda BUT every now and then I HAVE to have me a diet Mountain Dew which does indeed contain Aspartame. I also like the diet Food Lion brand of cola, orange, Mountain Lion and Dr pepperish something. Hope this helps and no don't go getting yourself in a panic, David
PS- also note that you can go to forum at the top, click search and then type in Aspartame and find many many discussions on this subject. This is a handy tool I use all the time that is often neglected or underused! _________________ Praise loudly, blame softly and treat each person you meet as a brother or sister!

Aspartame (Nutrasweet, Equal) makes my joints hurt.
And I didn't realize how much until I gave it up. I thought it was just arthritis. |

When I was drinking a lot of aspartame sweetened drinks I found that after a couple of cans, my thinking got "fuzzy." Back when they first came out - gosh was I thrilled I cound drink all the soda I wanted - ha! After a while if figured that I could drink one or two and be pretty much ok and then I thought hummmm - maybe not such a good idea....
Thanks for the homemade jello idea! I heard they were making a splenda sweetened one but I never see it in the stores. I've been avoiding jello because of the aspertame. |
