Gosh Jen - What control
I am so proud of how you are handling all those events you have been going to...You are really showing great determination...And you got a recipe for LC Brownies????????...Can that be found on the Recipe forum, I'll have to check that out...
Hope all went well with your Birthday meal...Isn't it amazing the power a scale has...Glad to hear it had something positive to say to you! Now that's a good Birthday gift ... Sorry your fiance was not able to be there with you but hopefully those girlfriends of yours took you somewhere real crazy!!!!!!
Your specialty cocktail sounds good...I am in the Midwest and I love diet squirt...That was the first diet soda I could say I really enjoyed...Very crisp and refreshing...especially in the summer time...Another good diet soda is Sprite Zero...not diet sprite...Sprite Zero - great mixer or by itself.
Best wishes on the rest of your parties....
P/S - Thanks for sending the hug - I am feeling better today!

well, I only have so much control...
DF did take me out to dinner - and went to VA early this AM. I had chicken croquettes, a green salad with shallot and tarragon dressing, and a big plate of their homemade white sausage and smoked meats with some sauerkraut. It was awesome. My big treat was to have a piece of their french bread and to not worry about the extra carbs in the rest of the dinner. I skipped dessert but had a glass of port when I got home.
Not bad overall - the bread was way off plan but I decided before the meal if we were going to eat out, I was either going to have bread or dessert for my birthday.
Its back to regular meals this week. Having fish for dinner and maybe making some shrimp salad to nibble on the next few days. I think DF is making lamb for new years eve and I'll likely make a salad to go with it.
The lc brownie recipe I used was from another forum. I've been experimenting with a specialty low carb baking ingredients like carbalose and a mix of sweeteners and so far things are turning out pretty well (um, well, some better than others). We are buying a digital camera for the new year so I might start posting some recipes and photos eventually. Here is the link to some of the recipes I've been using, and altering, in my low carb baking http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=283606&page=1&pp=15 |

Hi Folks!
Things are still going well here, although I've caught a cold. blech. oh well.
We are headed into New Years eve. Going to stay home this year so its much easier to keep an eye on what I'm eating and drinking. So far I think this is what's on the menu:
Lamb leg roast
Salad
maybe some sort of cheesy vegetable bake (Dad sent a cheese care package from Wisconsin and the DF is not a big cheese fan - gotta use it up!)
Snacks for watching football:
guacamole
spinach dip (for the DF)
raw veggies (for me)
chips/crackers for DF and my Mom
summer sausage
olives
and more cheese, lol.
Mom's making cookies, but its a kind I don't like and I've got a freezer full of low-carb baked goods (pumpkin poundcake, coconut-choc nib cookies, brownies)
See you all in a few days! |

Thanks Jen for sharing the low carb recipe link! I am always looking for new ideas...
Glad to hear that DF was able to be with you on your ba-Day... Yummm, I bet that french bread tasted good and that Lamb DF is going to cook today is going to be wonderful...I have not had lamb for many years...No one in my family care for it but me....
Had a good week, not stressing about what to eat... Looking forward to what the new year has to offer... No matter what my weight is tomorrow I am glad I will be that much closer to reaching my goal this year !
Stayed home this eve...It snowed today and it is very slippery out there, people are running into each other, not being able to make it up the hills, cars sliding sideways and running into snow banks... I want no part of that... We were home by 3:30pm...
Hope your cold is not to bad...Tell DF to cuddle and keep you warm

Thanks Ann - I had a dream last night that it snowed here, but alas, its in the 60s and raining. I do like how the snow looks, but not the sliding and slipping on the roads
My cold is a bit worse today (has settled into my chest which happens with EVERY cold I get). I'm drinking lots of fluids, taking my vitamins, and have been sucking on zinc lozenges for the past three days (yucky, but helping).
Anyway - last night was a big TREAT night. I planned to have about 6oz of real soda in a cocktail. It was almost unbearably sweet!!! I watered mine down a bit and put in some extra lemon juice and then it was ok. Here was our menu
DF cooked:
Lamb leg roast
Salad (I made this with a variety of lc dressings)
roasted potatoes for rest of family
glass of red wine (me and mom), beer for DF
Snacks for watching football:
guacamole, pork rinds (all mine
spinach dip
shrimp salad
raw veggies
chips/crackers for DF, DFIL, and my Mom
summer sausage, cheese
Treat:
gin, chambord, and Squirt cocktail to ring in new year.
Lesson learned - real soda too sweet!! I like diet better - or better yet just give me the liquor on ice! lololol.
Happy new year everyone!! I'll check in in a few days. |

Ann - 4 lbs! Yeah! Great work! I hope you are pleased too - can you imagine LOSING weight during the holidays?
I can honestly say that has never happened to me before and in the last 5 weeks since Thanksgiving I have lost a total of 4 lbs myself.
While mom has been here we have been eating out a lot and of course the house is full of food I would not normally cook/buy/eat like bread and cookies. I've really stuck with it and said NO moe times than I can count. lol. But I will say that it has stressed me out a bit - why do I have to keep saying, "No, I don't want a cookie."? And she wonders why I was overweight as a teenager. sheesh.
Believe it or not I think tomorrow might be the most challenging: my mom leaves for home in the afternoon and I will have the house and time to myself again and it will be tempting to CHEAT. But I won't. I'm going to make myself a nice meal, and watch a movie and CHILL OUT. lolol. I've really tried to enjoy every moment mom has been here - since we lost D's mom this year, she is more important to me than ever but gosh she can get on my last nerve too.
Much success to you in the new year as well. And it sounds like you are on your way.
Happy New Year Everyone! I'll do one last check in tomorrow. See ya then. |

Hi all! my final check in on the holiday challenge. Parties are done and its back to real life.
Looking over my stats and menus things went really well and thanks esp to Ann for her supportive posts . I ate mostly on plan and lost 4 lbs between Thanksgiving and New Years.
Now, this past week I have noticed that I've gotten a bit off track - too many meals out while my mother was visiting and too many lc treats. And on Thursday I totally over ate lc chicken tacos. ugh. think I'm still recovering from that. So - its back on track with meats and fresh veggies.
Thanks everyone for checking in. Happy New Year and for those celebrating 12th night or the Epiphany - many blessings to you! I will be doing the traditional Franciscan house blessing ritual that marks the arrival of the Wise men to the manger. Its believed to bring blessings to those who enter your door that year. |
