dumb question probably, but I love good thick chewy bacon, but how do you keep it from curling up while you fry it? sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. seems I remember something about a bacon press..... my aunt used to make the BEST bacon, and I think she used one.
any idears?????? _________________ Dingie Dinah

Dinah,
I never fry bacon, hate the mess! I always turn my oven to 400 degree and put my bacon on a cookie sheet and bake it,I turn it once it takes maybe 10 -15 mins depending on how thick it is.I only do this with the thick sliced bacon

Yes Dianah, they do make bacon presses. I've never had one tho. They sell them in a lot of the catalogs like Spencer, Walter Drake, etc. I bet one of the kitchen store would have them too.
What I do (when I remember), is take some kitchen scissors & snip it in about 1/2' (or less) intervals. Especially on the side that had the natural curve. That helps, but sometimes it still curls a little.

Dinah,
Check QVC. They have the neatest bacon press. It's big & covers a lot of bacon, and it's made of glass. I've been thinking about getting one. Here's the item number - K9296.
Hope this helps.

Dinha, sorry I ma late responding but I got mine from Amazon.com and it is really cool. It has a pig on it and is heavy! You put this on it and your bacon will be crying while it is frying! even, smooth and crispy as you want. My wife loves curly bacon, I refuse to eat it. Crisp, straight and long for me please! Here is the link http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-1398-Pig-Bacon-Press/dp/B0002IBQWG/ref
Hope this helps ya "curly" Su,

Awe, that's cute Davie! I kinda like that one too. Fits a skillet better, I would think. I've bookmarked it. Thanks! _________________ Dingie Dinah

I'd eat bacon if it was rolled into a meat ball shape, braided, or curled like a pigs tail. Soggy, half done, crisp - its all good. How can you refuse the siren call of bacon? LOL.

| I cook mine in the oven also. I use a cookie sheet with a wire rack, you don't have to turn it. I set the oven at 425, put the sheet right on the bottom, and then turn the oven on. I watch the light, when it goes off its cooked soft, crispy when it comes back on, just about enough time for over easy eggs. I really like the pepper bacon. Ed |

My Grandmother always said....'never put bacon in a hot pan". This seems to work for me. I very seldom have trouble with strips curling. Bed Bath and Beyond has a bacon press for pennies. I gave my son-in-law one for Xmas last yr. Lots of times I will put strips on a couple paper towels and cover with one and nuke it. Stays flat that way too..and less grease. But........I love saving that grease. Can't have turnip greens without it. _________________ I like to think my friends can look into my eyes, and see their best selves reflected |

Bacon grease to me is like peanut butter and banana sandwiches were to Elvis, without it "I'm all shook up uh huh huh"! Besides mayonnaise, it is my most used condiment and seasoning! Southern people are like that and we know; Pork fat is where it's at! See y'all around,
