Flu Season is just around the corner, and every year it seems to get worse. I encourage everyone to consider getting their flu shot. They should be available now, and they are running about $30.00 this year.
I know most of us don't like shots, and the flu shot can be somewhat controversial but, my humble opinion is that getting the flu is a lot worse, and each year hundreds, if not thousands actually don't survive it. If you have health issues such as diabetes I feel it is especially important for you to be immunized.
The shots are available at your doctors office, and many places such a grocery stores and Walmart also will offer them on a weekend or two. Please don't believe the myth that you can get the flu from the shot. You don't get injected with live virus, only the protein from the virus, which causes your body to build the antibodies you need to fight the virus.
The flu virus changes (mutates) from year to year, so it is important to get a shot each year...last year's won't work for this year's strain.
My wife and I got ours today, (at the home show of all places) and I encourage everyone to take time this week to do so.
Wishing good health to everyone.

About 40,000 people die from the flu and complications related to the flu each year. If you are elderly, have chronic health problems, or care for an infant or elderly person, it's a good idea to get the flu shot if you are able. In addition, washing your hands frequently can significantly decrease the risk of getting the flu (along with other germs floating around out there). In the winter, I usually carry one of those little bottles of purell to use when I've had my hands on the shopping cart, gas pump, or other item that has been handled by multiple people. I take it to church because I'll have to shake hands and then take communion without washing my hands. I also take the stairs rather than getting in an elevator full of coughing people--healthier for many reasons. _________________
