One of the first questions I have for this group is, are you on induction?

If not, what are you doing to lose the 100 pounds?

It would be very helpful if everyone would post an answer, even if you're not sure.

In a recent chat George Stella said he was on induction for 18 months.
That scares the hell out of me. But maybe that's what it takes. I've just completed two weeks of induction, again, and boy does it work!

I'm looking forward to your responses.

Hi Rick,

I've been low carbing it for over a month, but haven't been 100% true, some of our food has some form of sugar... but as soon as it's gone, I'm going back to induction. That should be in less than a week. I'll be on induction for about a month... maybe more... depending on the results.

Hope I answered your question.

i am not on any "plan" read all i could find about low carbing plus the basic plans atkins,sb,ss,hampton, etc i started out 2 months ago keeping carbs at 20 to 30g's per day. not eating anything with more than 2% sugar and drinking a gallon a water a day and consuming no caffeine. i have lost 32 pounds i have a 118 more to go to get to my goal. for me this works. as of today i have not cheated. one more thing, i took george's advice and decarbed my pantry and fridge.i also walk a mile every other day. working up to trying to do it everyday. 3 months ago i couldn't walk 1/2 mile without stopping. i'm a happy camper.tc Cool

Good morning Rick, good morning everyone! Very Happy I am on induction, the Atkins version, and have been for almost 15 months now, but as in George's case its because I had so much weight to lose. When I hit the 200lb mark (which is 26 lbs away Very Happy ) I will move to the next level called OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss) to drop the last 25 lbs. Have a great day everyone!

April,

Could you share what your typical food day is like? I would like to compare. I did induction and then added in the low carb products.

I'm doing just low carb. I knocked the sugar out totally. But if I want bread I have a slice of the lowcarb, keeping it limited. I also have fallen to the low carb ice cream, which I'm afraid I might have to give up.

I was overdoing my sugar alcohols with the other tempting things out there but I've learned they really aren't good for me.

Hi Lori Very Happy

A typical day during the work week goes something like this:

Breakfast:
1) Three eggs (boiled, scrambled or fried using a bit of olive oil, just depends on my mood)
2) Four slices of sugar free bacon
3) One cup decaf green tea
4) 22oz glass of water

Lunch:
1) 1 side salad, no dressing from McDonalds
2) 2 plain double cheeseburgers, no bun (meat and cheese)
3) water water water

Dinner:
1) Two fillets of salmon or tilapia / or a couple roasted chicken breasts / or a grilled steak....some kind of lean yummy meat
2) 1 cup of any of our "legal" veggies
3) One Diet Rite BlackCherry soda (this is my treat to myself for no dressing on my salad
4) Chased down with another 22oz glass of water

During the weekend, my lunch will be something like tuna or a meat and cheese rollup and some cut up "legal veggies, since I am usually running like a crazy woman all weekend. For me, one big trick is to NEVER miss a meal, even if I am not hungry, I'll grab a handful of radishes or celery so my body has something to work on and so my blood sugar doesnt go screwy on me. Hope this helps Smile

I think my biggest mistake was going off induction before I was ready to face the real world . I promised Kathy last night I would go back today. I really need to brush up on what is Induction ok today. To be honest,I havent helped myself at all this last year, a good day here,a Carb full day there. Not dedicatedd just a hit and miss attitude. Big mistake.

Yesterday was a in control day,so today should be a great day for a big change.

Well, here is what I do:
-keep carbs between 20-30/day
-keep calories under 1500
-no prefab low carb products
-no sugar/sugar alcohols, wheats or starches of any kind
-lots of H2O
-no eating after 7:30
-work out every day M-F for an hour at the gym

I do eat nuts, and the occasional strawberry. I limit my caffene intake to 1/2 cup in the AM. I drink the occasional decaf soda, and crystal light in addition to lots of water. I only rarely use granular splenda - davinci syups in my coffee, flax muffins, and whipped cream. On weekends, I may have a glass of dry red wine with dinner or a low carb beer when out with friends.

Would you consider this induction? Probably not? It has been working for me so far but I am always willing to tweek things so you have my permission to critique my plan! I will only be grateful!

I'm on a carb cycling plan called Natural Hormonal Enhancement. It has a 1 week induction (exactly like Atkins - just shorter) then you cycle carbs. It sticks to 20-40 carbs per day for 3 days and then a high carb, low protein meal for dinner on the 3 day. Then low carb (20-40 carbs) for 4 days and a high carb, low protein meal on the 4th night. Then the cycle starts all over.

It's a good program. It really does work...I've just not been faithful lately. But, that is all about to change. Very Happy

BTW - you are all such an inspiration!!!!

That sounds great to be able to satisfy your high carb cravings once or twice a week, but I don't think that it would work for me. I wouldn't lose weight that way.

I'm on induction again. Almost done with the first 2 weeks back, but I think I majorly messed up. I just went back to my normal low carb eating without the strict induction and forgot about the seeds, nuts and berries rule. Does that mean I have to start all over? My favorite snack is sunflower seeds that I have to crack and work for... lasts longer that way. I also have been having a blueberry flax muffin every morning with 3 blueberries on top. Do you guys think I should do the do the strict induction? Can't start that until Sunday since my Birthday is Friday and I was planning on having fresh berries with cream instead of cake.

Thanks April and everyone..... this really helps to see it in print - just what you have to do.

I'm doing good - i just have to watch that low carb bread and pasta....cut it back more. I'm not over doing it but i'm still allowing it.

The carb meal is not to satisfy the cravings as much as it is to refuel the glycogen (I think that's the word I'm looking for...I don't have the book with me.) stores. There's a lot of science to it (some of which I understand and some I don't). The basis is that going off plan for one meal doesn't hurt as long as you are back on the low carb plan immediately following. Also, this keeps the metabolism stoked and guessing what will happen next.

Don't worry, I'm not trying to convert anyone. Very Happy This is just what works for me. (But only when I stick with it of course.) Wink

I finished 2 weeks of induction and oh boy, my hat's off to all of you who stay on it for a long time! I'm staying under 30 carbs a day and eat nuts and some berries now and then. Three meals a day, 2 snacks, 8 glasses of water, don't measure my salads. We have dinner late so nothing after 9 pm except water.

I WISH I were on induction. I've gotten so sloppy. Not eating "bad" stuff per se, just not keeping track like I should. I had an easy 1st year on this plan, and I don't know if it's laziness or what, but I'm just not doing like I should. I'm kinda giving myself a break, since I'm maintaining my 80 lbs gone, until after I see the endo on the 25th. If he tells me it's not a thyroid problem, then I need to re-evaluate my life. So I guess you could put me in the "not sure what-the-heck I'm doin" catagory. I'm hoping all my buddies here will help me to kick start my motivation. Laughing
