Angie....I coudl slap you for posting that waffle pic....not a big pancake fan but those waffles look SO good....I have to go buy a waffle iron now...since i love waffles. My mom worked at the worlds fair when it came to New Orleans when I was a little girl and my dad used to take me to get thick Beligem sp? waffles. i'm ruined now.....what kind of waffle iron do you have?
btw...as far as the syrup goes the Dh uses the smuckers or mrs buttersworth but I love pureed blueberries or strawberries to make a syrup. |

| Angie, I haven't gotten to try it yet. I will when I make the waffles. Thanks for the idea about butter and syrup for dipping. I do like them crunchy. Thanks, Donna |

Here is the syrup that I usually use.
I tried the Vermont one. I thought it would be really good, but was very disapointed. I didn't care much for it. It wasn't nasty, and I used it all up, but won't buy it again, unless I can't find anything else that doesn't have aspartame.
The Log Cabin, Mrs Butterworths, Cary's, and most of the rest contain aspartame, and I won't buy them. _________________ Billie

Rachel,
Do you have a Kroger chain store (mine is King Soopers - they have a lot of other names) near you?
That is where I get my Maple Grove Farms syrup I have pictured. It can probably also be found at a lot of other stores.
It has very similar ingredients to the one you posted.
I pay less than $4.00 for it at the store here. So it is cheaper, and I don't have to pay postage extra.
Course I know you may not be able to find it locally, but I bet other Kroger stores would carry it. (Maybe not everywhere.) _________________ Billie

I don't think we have a Kroger around here but I'm going to check some speciality shops over the weekend. I had a hard time just finding wheat or oat bran till a new shop opened up and they had 2 bags of each, I guess they're sold out now! _________________

I got a really cool one at Sam's Club. It's like the kind in the restaurants, I get some waffle mix from netrition. I don't eat them often, as I try to avoid the floury stuff right now, (See George I did listen) but every once in a while, I will partake, with about 3 or 4 over easy eggs on top with some davinci's pancake syrup...and after that I'm good to go for another month or two!!!
My advice....spray it really good with cooking spray...otherwise it's a real chore to clean!!!

OK I finally made the waffles and they are good. I got a lil worried b/c there was an eggy smell while they were cooking but not an eggy taste. They were dense and crispy. very good. I found a small waffle maker by durabrand this week at walmart for 10 bucks. looked very similar to yours ocean. It made 2 waffles and the recipe made 2 batches. I'm going to put the other 2 in the fridge or freezer and toast in the toaster tomorrow and see how that works. great recipe.
BTW, thanks for the tip on the syrup Billie. I bought it and like it. It does have sorboital in it along with the splenda but that's Ok with me. |
