Hmmm...interesting. I have never seen this before with a low carb diet but other stresses, yes. Good vegetables, proteins/fats and a good multi-vitamin(non-synthetic) is a good idea. If a person is living on meat and cheese only, they're going to lose more than their hair.

OMG!!!! Now I know what happened! LC made me do it! Take warning look! :
before;
After
I'm gonna go eat a potato, some bread, an ice cream and some watermelon and grow some hair! NOT, and for the record, I am sure glad they clarified that OUR diet with a high protein intake makes us recover soon! I better forget about eating the starches and go buy me a comb, a brush, some shampoo, maybe a blow dryer even ,

Hi Karen, Thanks for sharing the article because i am having a similiar issue with thinning in the hairline and on top...I have been attributing it to my long-time hypothyroidism...so the article was interesting. I'll be talking about it with my endocrinologist in August. I'm also glad for the link so I can check out that website too.
David, you are way too funny...thanks for the chuckle...DON'T run out and eat a potato silly man.

As a kid, my dad ate ice cream every night. He would tell me that ice cream makes hair grow on your chest. Um....excuse me but no thanks.
David~The hair may grow on your back instead. |

When I am lowcarbing, I notice that I dont lose the 1 or 2 strands every time I wash my hair. And my nails grow faster and harder.

Thank you for posting this!! i've been havin this problem for at least two months and was sort of freaking out. I now can attribute the hair loss more likley to a combination of weight loss and the two weeks I had the flu/fever and ate next to nothing...whew. Here's to the growing back part. hope it starts soon.

Just for your information, Michael Eades (Protein Power) has a really good explanation about hair loss, similar to the article at Low Carb Luxury, but in a little more detail. It's very reassuring, although for some of us with naturally thin hair, losing hair could be a major event! I've been following another forum where a lot of people did the Kimkins diet, and a large portion of them lost hair, due to eating extremely low calorie, low carb, and low fat. Dr. Eades post was directed primarily to them, but it can apply to any of us who might have been under some sort of stress, whether diet or illness or some other problem.

For those with hypothyroid...or those who maybe have it but don't realize it.
I just started taking Evening Primrose Oil after reading this article... http://tinyurl.com/5jbo8b
Hopefully I can report that my hair has started filling back in some. Has anyone else taken EPO and had good results?
