Hi all,
I used to come here a lot a few years ago. I have had so much going on in my life, and I didn't seriously commit to the low carb lifestyle, so consequently I ate all the wrong stuff, and used the excuse that maybe because God made all the good foods on this earth, there is nothing wrong with eating them, but I failed to acknowledge that some of those foods just didn't agree with me. I felt I could "eat them moderately", but they triggered such cravings that I lost self control. I have been through the death of my father, two knee replacement surgeries, and finding out I have had sleep apnea for some time. I think I have been living in denial that I have pre diabetes and needed to address it right away, but no I let it go. I have been back on low carb now for a couple of weeks, and even though the weight loss for me is slow, I am going to make it a life long way of eating. I had gained approx. 22 lbs in the last year. I also found out that a medication I was taking was interfering with my thyroid meds so also another reason for weight gain, depression, hair loss, etc. It is almost so pitiful I have to laugh. Things are better now, since I have gotten back on low carb, and have handled other medical issues, like hormones etc. I can walk well now and I have a Wii Fit that I use at least every other day. I haven't been away from here completely, as I check in every now and then. Sorry to hear of Dinah's ear surgery, I hope she is better now. I have only lost about 3lbs in 2 weeks, that is how it goes for me, but my blood sugar is down, and I am sleeping better and the indigestion is back under better control. Amazing the difference in how we feel on low carb, but the addiction to carbs is very powerful, even so much as to endure suffering in order to have them. Anyway, I still like to come here and check things out and read about some of the happenings here. Everyone here has so many good suggestions, and are very caring. Two things: 1) I found a great recipe on lowcarbcafe for a breakfast called "Just Like Oatmeal". It really is tasty, and 2) I wonder if Egglover is still around much. I wouldn't mind saying hello to her. Also I think it is neat that George's show is going to be back on in Spanish, at least someone will get the benefit of it. Take care all of you, and thank you for all your great encouragement for all who come here, and your super suggestions.

Welcome back Donna. I too appreciate the support from the long time low carbers. It helps me know we can keep this up.
I can also relate to feeling so pitiful healthwise. I have several physical limitations that make getting around difficult, much less exercising. I lose really slowly, so I try not to think about the weight loss. We are doing this to control my hubby's diabetes. He's doing well there. If I lose weight too, that is great. Not to long ago, I weighed and discovered I had managed to lose 15 pounds. That is certainly better than gaining. I have been on a lot of diets in my life, and I am beginning now to see that with a little planning and commitment, this is an enjoyable lifestyle.

Donna!
Good to see you posting again. (Yes, I do remember you.)
Sorry you've been through so many troubles. Hope things get much better now.
Sometimes I think man decided that certain foods were OK or good for us that God didn't really intend for us to eat. And then also some are good for people in general, but some of us do have problems with them. Sometimes I think we brought some of that on ourselves by overdoing them. At any rate, there are foods that some people can eat without a problem, and others of us just can't.
It's good when we finally realize that we just can't eat them, and learn to leave them alone.
You asked about egglover. She was away for quite some time too, but she has been posting off and on again here lately, so maybe she will drop in and see your posts, and "talk" to you.
Again, welcome back. _________________ Billie

(((DonnaT))) I am sorry to hear of all you have been through. Remember, you did the best you could have, with all that you were coping with.
Anyway, we will have to get together sometime! I LOVE it that you are back- and me too- I was without consistent internet access before.)

I can't thank you enough for your encouragement and support. I am determined to commit to this way of eating for the rest of my life. It seems hard to imagine not eating some things anymore, but it is harder to imagine myself dead! I too am in this to control my diabetes. I have to look at it that way, because I don't lose weight very quickly at all. If it controls my blood sugar and I don't have to take drugs that is a good thing. I find that when I do take meds, I tend to let them work for me and not eat right, it is an excuse to eat whatever I want. I was on Byetta for a while, and the doctor was giving me samples, but she ran out of them and I ran out of Byetta, so I said well this is the time to take eating right seriously. Most people lose a little weight on Byetta, not me, I gained. Anyway, I know this is the right way to go, so I will continue. Is it really true that George is putting out another cookbook? I hope so, his others are very well done, and good. I do love desserts though so I hope he enlists Rachel to work out some yummy recipes using almond meal and flax meal. I don't care much for soy flour. Anyway, I thank you all again for your kindness, and I wish you all success too!
