* Note *
I'm not watching carbs for weight loss but for blood sugar control.... if I lose weight that's great ( which I am I can feel it in how my clothes fit ) but I am not on a 20 carb a day program.
My family is 7 kids , 2 parents and 2 employees who all eat at our house.
I have learned that meal planning in advance helps to take the dinner crazies out of dinner It also saves money.... I am saving one hundred dollars a week in doing this.
I use a program called Living Cookbook http://www.livingcookbook.com
There are other programs but this works best for me.
I make my own bread crumbs from low carb tortillas toasted and let to dry , I also make my own chips from the same tortillas.
I use soy flour frequently , I have found that walmart has it for the lowest price ( by half ).
I try to avoid tons of specialty low carb products , if I cant find it at a reasonable price or I cant make it ... then I balance the meal so it fits into what I'm doing for carbs.
I use Altern the walmart version of splenda to save a few bucks.... I also frequent a discount food store where the box maybe damaged but the product is fine. I am able to eat the Special K with protein ( 9 net carbs ) and I can get it at this store usually for 50 cents.
I know people rave about Dreamfields ... it sets my sugar off ... if you eat it and test fine that's great but it doesn't work for me.
We do all of this for about 500$ a month |

Laci, I do a lot of the same things you do as well. The dream fields does me the same as I have posted previously. I have found that prior planning has saved me many a downfalls! Many times when hunger and low BS strikes and you are unprepared (especially as a diabetic that I am/was) you will cram anything into your mouth carbs or no carbs. I have found that as I near my goal, I have been able to introduce very sparingly more whole grain carbs on a limited basis into my diet at work to help with the low BS. Whole wheat SF breads and at times a piece of fruit such as an apple or some kiwi. The altern to me is as good and a lot cheaper than the Splenda. Take care and good points,
