My Story:
I was a very skinny teenager with the metabolism from hell! I could eat whatever, whenever and never gained. As I got older I lost tone, but remained slim. Then I got pregnant. My eating habits went crazy, all I wanted was sugar and salt and lots of it. For the first part of the pregnancy this made little difference and then bang the kilos started to pile on. I weighed 67 kilos before having my son (approx 148lb)and almost 95kg after (209lb). I tried all sorts of diets and was physically active running around after an early walking toddler but could never get past about 85kg (187lb). I managed not to gain even more with my second child by calorie counting, but still couldn't shift the kilos. I spent money on gyms and childcare and kept going to low fat but the weight always came back. As I was very skinny as a young woman (no boobs at all!) I liked being curvy but hated feeling fat. So my goal weight now is 72kg (160lb) so I can keep the right bumps.
I discovered lowcarb/high protein last year and lost a massive 13kg (28.5lb)but kinda lost the plot over Christmas. My New Years resolution was to get back on track and I have been looking for a more food friendly approach to keep me on track. I discovered George Stellas recipes and have been inspired. I love food and want to keep loving it and don't want to beat myself up if I have a 'treat' eating out every now and then. When I lost the weight before I found that by eating low carb (taking out the starchy carbs) most of the time, I could have a treat every now and then and still lose. It is just a case of creating a diet and lifestyle in which I don't miss them the rest of the time.
I do find that artificial sweetners leave a funny taste in my mouth so I am trying natural subs like Xylitol and Stevia this time.
My Tip:
If you were eating starchy carbs at every meal then even only having them in one meal is reducing your intake by 2/3! If you only have them once a week then that's 20/21 low carb meals. Every bit helps.
Motivational Message:
Let them eat cake (so long as it's made of almond meal and stevia!)
